# Beneficiaries

> Add beneficiaries and understand what allocation percentages mean.

Beneficiaries are the people who can claim recovery access after death verification completes.

## What beneficiaries receive

After verification, a beneficiary receives a claim link. The claim page lets them start a recovery session and collect enough released shares to reconstruct the vault key in their browser.

<Warning>
  Once a beneficiary reconstructs the vault key, they can decrypt the vault items available in the recovery payload. Allocation percentages are informational; they do not cryptographically restrict item access.
</Warning>

## Allocation percentages

Allocation percentages help document intended estate allocation. Eternum validates that beneficiary allocations total 100% or less.

Example:

| Beneficiary | Allocation |
| ----------- | ---------- |
| Alice       | 60%        |
| Bob         | 40%        |

Unassigned allocation stays unspecified in Eternum.

## Beneficiary limits by plan

| Plan   | Beneficiaries |
| ------ | ------------- |
| Seed   | 2             |
| Legacy | 5             |
| Estate | Unlimited     |

## When claim links are available

Claim tokens can only be generated after death verification reaches the verified state. Before that, beneficiaries can be listed on the account but cannot access recovery.
